Calltech boosts talent from El Salitre School at an event educational innovation
Attitude, charisma, and determination were the qualities that stood out for the fifth-grade team from Colegio El Salitre during the E5 Challenge, held on March 28. Although ten schools participated, the students from this district school managed to capture the undivided attention of attendees and major national media outlets such as CityTV and Canal Caracol. Their naturalness in front of the cameras and the confidence with which they explained their project surprised everyone, demonstrating that when it comes to talent and creativity, there are no barriers or differences between public and private institutions.

For the first time in its history, the E5 Challenge – Energy Race 2025, a renowned educational innovation event traditionally led by private schools, opened its doors to the public sector. This milestone was made possible thanks to the support of Calltech, a company committed to education and sponsor of the El Salitre School team.
The challenge was to design and build a functional vehicle that would compete on a track, applying principles of science, technology, and innovation. Although materials were not restricted, the El Salitre School team decided to take on the challenge by using primarily recycled elements, as a creative and responsible way to develop their prototype with the available resources. This choice not only demonstrated their ingenuity, but also their environmental awareness and adaptability.
Beyond the technical achievement, this experience represented a transformative opportunity for the children: working as a team, exploring new technologies, practicing effective communication, and strengthening their self-confidence. At every stage of the process, the students demonstrated surprising maturity, becoming an example of what is possible when public education is truly supported.
Despite initial challenges such as the project's late start, these young innovators not only met the challenge but also excelled, elevating their school's reputation and demonstrating the educational and human quality that exists in public institutions.
